Review and Approval of Customer Documents

In Canada, the practice of engineering is limited to individuals and companies who hold an engineering license in the province or territory they operate in. If you need to produce an engineering deliverable, but don’t have a licensed engineer on staff, you may need the services of a contract engineer. The following situations typically would require the services of an external engineer:

  1. You employ engineers-in-training but not professional engineers. A contract professional engineer would provide guidance to the engineer-in-training and take professional responsibility for the design.
  2. You employ designers, drafters or tradespersons, but not engineers. A contract professional engineer would provide a check of the design and take professional responsibility for the design.
  3. You are employing the design of a vendor from outside of the jurisdiction of the project. A contract professional engineer would provide a check of the design to ensure local codes and standards are met, and take professional responsibility for the design.

Bench can review and approve (stamp) your documents, provided we are allowed adequate time to meet our professional responsibility by thoroughly reviewing the design and making changes where necessary. It is recommended to engage us at the start of this process so that we can supervise the design process. If we are asked to approve a completed design without supervision, it would require us to duplicate the design steps to ensure the design meets applicable codes and best practices.
